The Australian Defence Medal
and What It Really Means

That’s a good question. Australians who have served their country wear the “Australian Defence Medal” (ADM). This medal was authorised on the 20th March 2006, and ex-service personnel who have served from 3rd September 1945 onwards qualify. With few exceptions, anyone wearing the medal has completed four or more years of service. Keep an eye out for anyone wearing the Australian Defence Medal at any military ceremonial service such as Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. More information on the ADM can be found here.
